Casa Ursulina

The Dianna Ortiz Ursuline Center for Women

How you can get involved

Would you like to be a part of the ministry of Casa Ursulina? There are many ways! For example, just by telling your friends about this web site, you can introduce many others to this wonderful work.

Recently a woman in Henderson, Kentucky, was closing her sewing shop. After her sale, she still had 75 bolts of material left over. When she learned about Casa Ursulina, she decided to donate all of the fabric to this mission. Someone else heard about this gift and offered to pay for the shipping!

Meche, Dominga, and Mercedes demonstrate spinning wheels constructed by local craftsmen. In August 2007, Ed and Gloria Cecil donated four of these wheels.

This year, spinning and weaving have become a major part of learning and production among the women of Casa Ursulina. Wool is available in the area. Craftsmen in and around Chillán have learned to build spinning wheels and looms. When more are available, more women will be able to learn this craft and to produce beautiful scarves, shawls, purses, and tablemats for sale in Chile and in the United States. Recently Ed and Gloria Cecil of Owensboro, Kentucky, donated four spinning wheels — in honor of their four children, to Casa Ursulina.

Just $4 will purchase 8 kilos of wool! Other possibilities for purchase, either whole or in part, are felting needles, looms, and spinning wheels. Most of these sales benefit the people of the area. Find out how you can become a part of this new initiative. Here's the link: Invest in Casa Ursulina. It's a PDF file . . . you can print it out or share it electronically if you wish.

In order for a donation to Casa Ursulina to be tax deductible, the Ursuline Sisters retain full authority and discretion to use the donation where needed. Please make all checks payable to Ursuline Sisters of Mount Saint Joseph. You may note your preference for its use by writing “Casa Ursulina” on the memo line. The Ursuline Sisters of Mount Saint Joseph are a 501(C)3 nonprofit corporation. Mail checks to:
