The Dianna Ortiz Ursuline Center for Women
How you can get involved

he had just completed. Javier, who lives in Chillán Viejo (old Chillán), our neighboring town, produces excellent looms and spinning wheels for Casa Ursulina. Four of these looms were donated by Ed and Gloria Cecil, loyal friends from Owensboro, Kentucky, in honor of their children: Sarah, Rachel, Ruth, and Aaron. |
This year, spinning and weaving have become a major part of learning and production among the women of Casa Ursulina. Wool is available in the area. Craftsmen in and around Chillán have learned to build spinning wheels and looms. When more are available, more women will be able to learn this craft and to produce beautiful scarves, shawls, purses, and tablemats for sale in Chile and in the United States. Recently Ed and Gloria Cecil of Owensboro, Kentucky, donated four looms — in honor of their four children, to Casa Ursulina.
Just $4 will purchase 8 kilos of wool! Other possibilities for purchase, either whole or in part, are felting needles, looms, and spinning wheels. Most of these sales benefit the people of the area. Find out how you can become a part of this new initiative. Here's the link: Invest in Casa Ursulina. It's a PDF file . . . you can print it out or share it electronically if you wish. (Please note that the contact person is now Debra Noble . . . phone number is the same: 270-229-2008.)
In order for a donation to Casa Ursulina to be tax deductible, the Ursuline Sisters retain full authority and discretion to use the donation where needed.
