Sister Mary Elizabeth (Mimi) Ballard, with seven Chilean women, founded the Dianna Ortiz Ursuline Center for Women — Casa Ursulina — in 1997. She continues to serve as director. A native of Bardstown, Kentucky, Sister Mimi has been an Ursuline Sister of Mount Saint Joseph since 1967. She began ministering in Chile in 1978 and has served in Latin America for 31 years. Sister Ruth Gehres, an Ursuline Sister since 1952, joined Sister Mimi in Chillán in November 2007. Sister Ruth has a varied background in teaching, administration, and communications.
